My wife and I visited an art gallery located in Ohme, Metropolitan Tokyo, which displays on permanent basis the works of a master landscape painter, Kawai Gyokudo . In 1945, Kawai evacuated to this place when his house in downtown Tokyo was burnt down by an air raid in the final stage of World War II. The gallery stands in a tranquil environment on the upstream Tama River with mountains close behind. It has a beautiful stone garden as you can see in these photos.
Gyokudo's portrait and some works of his are shown here.
