Sankeien is noted for its beautiful landscape garden and historic houses (some of them dating back to the 17th Century that were transferred from Kyoto, the old capital of Japan). When you enter the park, you feel as if you are in an oasis because the park is located in an industrial area near an expressway. Sankeien was founded by Sankei Hara (1868-1939) who made a fortune out of his silk trade; he was a great arts collector as well as a patron for young artists.
